About the position

The Field Applications Engineer serves as the key technical expert for customers and sales channels, focusing on enhancing SEMI sales through technical expertise and support in sales efforts, as well as contributing to new product development innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany sales staff on visits to customer sites to identify and understand customer needs
  • Qualify and communicate product opportunities
  • Collaborate with Engineering to drive 'design wins' based on the best technical solution
  • Facilitate corporate standards and cost efficiencies
  • Drive growth within product segments
  • Maintain and communicate understanding of technical trends driving markets and competition, and track customer roadmaps
  • Develop detailed specifications and application notes for new products; contribute content to technical collateral materials
  • Maintain customer files for use by global FAEs and other departments
  • Support field issues and repairs
  • Educate sales staff and other internal/external personnel about both new and existing products
  • Comply with and participate in all Smiths Interconnect EHS programs, policies, procedures, and training requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Five years of direct professional experience in a related background
  • Well-organized and self-motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify and support change and continuous improvement
  • Ability to maintain customer accounts and sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making business decisions
  • Understanding of the organization's commercial environment and ability to support its commercial success
  • Ability to engage, challenge, and work effectively with others both internal and external
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation
  • Knowledge of market techniques and principles
  • Ability to work directly with customers on complex technical issues
