About the position

The Field Audit Manager position is responsible for managing the Audit division's Seattle area office, serving as a subject matter expert in tax administration, audit policies, and procedures. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with tax laws and generating significant revenue contributions to the state. The manager will oversee a team of 10-15 audit professionals, implement audit programs, and assist in resolving complex tax issues while maintaining high-quality audit standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Audit division's Seattle area office and serve as the subject matter expert.
  • Plan, develop, and implement an audit program within a defined geographical area.
  • Evaluate projects and assignments to determine resource needs based on complexity and staff experience levels.
  • Monitor the status of in-progress assignments and assist staff in resolving complex issues.
  • Ensure all audit assessments conform to Quality Audit Standards for fair application of tax law.
  • Assist in resolving complex tax issues, including those without precedent.
  • Support the Attorney General's Office with discovery requests and trial preparations, including testifying as needed.
  • Direct and manage 10-15 professional audit staff, including lead auditors and possibly expert positions.
  • Act as contract manager for independent contractors performing audits outside of Washington.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of college-level accounting.
  • Three years of experience in professional accounting or auditing, including knowledge of the Washington Revenue Act and related rules.
  • Additional experience in tax administration or tax auditing may substitute for education requirements.
  • Preferred certifications include CPA, CMA, CIA, or CFE.
  • Working knowledge of management principles, communication techniques, and personnel rules.

  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical aptitude in understanding and troubleshooting ATLAS adjustments.
