About the position

The Field Automation Engineer position is a critical role within a large multi-national company that serves clients across the United States. This remote position requires the engineer to support the installation, startup, and repair of complex automated equipment at various project sites. The role demands a high level of technical expertise, particularly in PLC programming and automation systems, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Candidates must be prepared for extensive travel, as the position requires 100% travel to different project sites, necessitating proximity to a major airport. Additionally, candidates should be willing to travel outside of the U.S. for training purposes. The company covers all travel expenses, including food, upfront, ensuring that engineers can focus on their work without financial concerns related to travel. This position offers a competitive salary, overtime pay, and a generous benefits package, including 20 days of paid time off (PTO) and sick days. Fluency in Spanish is strongly encouraged, as it may enhance communication with clients and team members in various locations.

Responsibilities

  • PLC programming using ladder and structured text for main PLCs such as Rockwell, Siemens, and B&R.
  • Programming of variable frequency drives (VFDs) and managing network switches.
  • Setting up upstream and downstream interlocks to third-party equipment.
  • Integrating automation peripherals including labelers, checkweighers, barcode readers, and vision cameras.
  • Interpreting electrical schematics and supervising electrical tasks.
  • Supervising and coordinating contractors reporting to the project manager (PM).
  • Reporting timelines and project updates to the PM.
  • Working on customer startup projects and ensuring successful implementation.
  • Documenting equipment and project details.
  • Training final operators and supervisors on equipment usage.
  • Servicing existing equipment in the field, identifying errors or failures, and determining root causes and preventative actions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required.
  • Experience with automation and PLC programming is essential.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

  • Experience with packaging automation systems.
  • Familiarity with various PLC brands and programming languages.
