About the position

The Field Communications Network Tech position at Danos is a critical role responsible for ensuring the delivery of secure, performant, reliable, and efficient end-to-end network services for Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Automation, Drilling, and other critical business unit network services in West Texas Business Units. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to safety awareness, work ethic, technical skill, customer focus, and open communication, aligning with the company's vision and values. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency. In this position, the technician will analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex networking problems that impact business applications and services. They will utilize IT Service Management tools to document, manage, and resolve operational incidents and requests, ensuring that tasks are prioritized and managed effectively. The role demands 24/7 availability while on-call, including the use of a cell phone for off-hours support and weekend on-call status. The technician will also travel to field locations to restore services, which may include communication towers, shelters, fiber vaults, and well facilities. The technician will be deeply engaged with business units to ensure that deadlines and objectives are met, keeping the customer base informed of changes and issues within the field network environment. They will assist in identifying hardware and software needs, provide advice on current options, and manage the lifecycle of field network projects, including planning, budgeting, execution, and continuous improvement. Documentation is a key aspect of this role, as the technician will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical processes, system designs, and operational guidelines for the organization. Overall, the Field Communications Network Tech will play a vital role in the optimization of field networks, focusing on people, processes, and technology, while ensuring that all operational standards are met and exceeded.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve complex networking problems that impact business applications and services.
  • Utilize IT Service Management tools to document, manage, and resolve operational, infrastructure or hardware incidents and request items.
  • Monitor automated alerts generated by system management tools and make decisions on the most effective resolution.
  • Provide 24/7 availability while on-call, including use of a cell phone for off-hours support and weekend on-call status.
  • Travel to field locations to restore services including Towers, Communication Shelters, Fiber Vaults, and Well Facilities.
  • Provide solutions to complex problems on the integration of various technologies including connectivity issues.
  • Collaborate with IT, managers, and other stakeholders to develop an action plan for improved operations.
  • Participate in the design, testing and deployment of network technologies throughout the field.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operation of upgraded and new network related devices and services based on user- and service-defined requirements.
  • Assist in identifying hardware/software needs and provide advice regarding current options, policies and procedures.
  • Schedule formal change requests to field network systems for firmware updates, security changes, and other configuration changes.
  • Document technical processes and troubleshooting guidelines.
  • Document system designs, as-built diagrams, and all operational information about Company field area networks and publish on the intranet as guidelines for the entire organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • In-depth understanding and troubleshooting skills of cabling infrastructure (Layer 1 - Fiber, Copper), common wired network devices, IP telephony, two-way radio, local area networks, wide area networks, and potential connectivity issues for each.
  • Results oriented and creative in applying expert technical knowledge to solve problems.
  • Collaborative with peers in learning expert-level knowledge proactively before it is needed.
  • Understands the concepts of scope and time/resource management, can proactively plan complex project work that involves multiple disciplines and be accountable for the results.
  • Effectively communicates different types of complex problems and resolutions in simple terms to different types of audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • College graduate in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related field preferred; Equivalent work experience pertaining to information technologies and/or telecommunications may be acceptable.
  • Experience designing supporting, deploying or designing networks.
  • Experience with RF, communications towers, and/or any telecommunications facilities design, construction, and start up/commissioning processes.
  • Experience working on structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure including design and installation best practices, and industry standards.
  • Experience working with internet networking technologies (TCP/IP, routing, switching) and optical transport technologies.
