About the position

The Field Cost Engineer will provide essential cost analysis, change management, and budget control expertise for large-scale Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects. This role involves supervising cost engineering activities, supporting project organizational tasks, and ensuring compliance with Bechtel's standards and procedures throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of Bechtel standard processes and procedures for project budgets and cost management.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the preparation of specific budgets and assist in developing budgeting standards.
  • Set up and maintain project budgets using estimating line details and track through the project lifecycle.
  • Supervise cost recording, monitoring, and reporting for compliance with Bechtel standards and project requirements.
  • Investigate requirements for estimating and cost control data for specific disciplines.
  • Prepare or supervise cost studies using historical data and statistical analysis.
  • Develop input for quarterly Project Financial Status Reporting (PFSR) including cost flow and cash flow forecasts.
  • Identify, analyze, and provide innovative solutions using cost engineering principles.
  • Supervise and prepare cost trend estimates for project change management.
  • Create and implement measurement systems for processes and analyze performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 13 years of relevant work experience in a major EPC firm, preferably Bechtel, or 15 years of related work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in cost engineering functions including cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis in both field and home office settings.
  • Proficiency in PC operating systems and various software applications, including Ecosys, Primavera, Microsoft Office, and PowerBi.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience presenting complex cost analyses to senior management and clients.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controller account codes affecting Project Controls.
