About the position

As a Field Diesel Mechanic (Service Tech III - Field Service) at United Rentals, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing complex rental equipment. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with various systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems. You will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs in a safe and professional manner, ensuring that all work meets the high standards expected by our customers. Your daily tasks will involve traveling to customer job sites to conduct repairs and maintenance on both rental and customer-owned equipment. It is essential to maintain your service vehicle in a clean and professional manner, reflecting the company's commitment to quality and customer service. In addition to your technical skills, you will also assist in training lower-level technicians, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help them grow in their roles. Keeping accurate and timely documentation of your work is vital, as you will be required to maintain paperwork and electronic records of work performed. You may also assist with the pick-up and delivery of equipment and parts, ensuring that our customers receive their equipment in a timely manner. This position offers the opportunity for personal and professional growth, with the potential to advance to higher levels of Service Technician and leadership roles within the Service Department. Responsibilities

  • Perform safe maintenance and repair of a variety of complex rental equipment involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
  • Travel to customer job sites for repair/maintenance of rental or customer-owned equipment; maintain service vehicle in a clean and professional manner.
  • Assist in the training of lower-level technicians as needed.
  • Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) in a complete and timely manner on a daily basis.
  • Assist with the pick-up and delivery of equipment & parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • 3-5 years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
  • Strong mechanical background knowledge of various engines.
  • Must own tools applicable to position.
  • Superior customer service, teamwork and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to frequently lift items up to 45 lbs.
