About the position

Our Denver office has an opportunity for a Civil Field Engineer. Working in a multi-disciplined environment, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects with our Water Team. This position involves leading all on-site inspection activities to record as-constructed conditions and verify conformance with the contract documents. You will be responsible for identifying and documenting site-related construction challenges, consistently communicating these to the Project Team to resolve them in a timely manner. Additionally, you will maintain daily photographic records to document construction activities and regularly archive these for records. You will also be tasked with construction progress monitoring and preparation of daily reports. Attending on-site construction progress review meetings will be part of your responsibilities, including documenting discussions and action items. As a main point of contact on site for the Contractor and the Client, you will review requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, and shop drawings. Obtaining and reviewing as-built drawings will also be part of your duties. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to train and/or mentor less experienced staff in company procedures, standards, and software. Your role may also include plan review, design, and plan production as needed, as well as providing quality control for design plans. Travel within the Denver metro area and along the Front Range will be required, and the position will work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. The position has the possibility of overtime to align with Contractor construction schedules, which may include some overnight and weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Leading all on-site inspection activities to record as-constructed conditions and verify conformance with the contract documents.
  • Identifying and documenting site-related construction challenges, and consistently communicating these to the Project Team to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining daily photographic records to document construction activities and regularly archiving for records.
  • Construction progress monitoring, and preparation of daily reports.
  • Attending on-site construction progress review meetings, including documenting the discussion and action items.
  • Serving as a main point of contact on site for the Contractor and the Client.
  • Reviewing requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings.
  • Obtaining and reviewing as-built drawings.
  • Training and/or mentoring less experienced staff in company procedures, standards and software.
  • Plan review including developer's site civil plans, utility plans, municipal infrastructure plans.
  • Design and plan production as needed.
  • Provide quality control for design plans as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of standard engineering and construction principles, municipal design standards and design specifications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, time management, and organizational and documentation skills.
  • The ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software, particularly with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D is ideal.
  • Have a valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the Project Team, Clients, and Contractors in the resolution of construction issues.
  • Post-secondary education in an accredited Civil Engineering program or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Preferred 2 years of construction inspection experience related with municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
