About the position

The Field Engineer - Electrical at Bechtel is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing operations within the electrical discipline on a utility-scale solar photovoltaic project in Posey County, Indiana. This position is part of Bechtel's commitment to delivering transformational renewables and clean energy projects, and it involves providing essential field engineering support across various functions including work planning, material management, safety, quality control, and technical inspections. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, willing to relocate to project sites throughout the U.S., and will work closely with the Project Field Engineer, Superintendents, and craft personnel to ensure that construction operations comply with specifications, schedules, and budgets. In this role, the Field Engineer will engage in work planning and packaging by preparing construction drawings and sketches, and interfacing in planning construction methods and procedures. Material management responsibilities include initiating requisitions for field purchases and preparing quantity takeoffs of materials and equipment. The engineer will also verify quantities using tracking systems and ensure that safety and quality control measures are strictly adhered to, promoting a zero-accident philosophy on site. The position requires a proactive approach to continuous learning and a firm understanding of system and area scoping necessary for package development. The Field Engineer will also coordinate with subcontractors, reviewing and approving inspection test plans and ensuring that all activities align with Bechtel's commitment to Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H). This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the project and ensuring that all engineering activities are completed safely and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
  • Interfaces in planning construction methods and procedures.
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
  • Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area.
  • Conducts field inspections and participates in project walkdowns, which require extensive walking in and around a construction site.
  • Develops a firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.
  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans.
  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods.
  • Basic knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical commodity and equipment installation including cable pulling, terminations, and underground direct bury cable installation.
