About the position

The Field Engineer - Geotech at Bechtel Corporation is responsible for managing and coordinating various aspects of civil discipline projects, including soil stabilization, mass earthworks, and drainage systems. This role involves overseeing project planning, procurement, construction, and turnover, ensuring that all work is performed within budget and according to specifications. The engineer will lead a high-performance project team, manage budgets and schedules, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate project activities from planning through procurement, construction, and turnover.
  • Prepare construction drawings and schedules, including temporary construction facilities.
  • Initiate requisitions for field purchases and prepare quantity takeoffs of materials and equipment.
  • Verify commodities on quantity tracking systems or other databases as required.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and quality control standards, promoting a zero accident philosophy.
  • Develop a firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings for package development.
  • Review and approve inspection test plans and coordinate subcontractor submittals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of structural construction operations, construction surveying, excavation, and backfill operations.
  • Technical knowledge of drainage on infrastructure projects and construction technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Experience in civil construction on large projects and previous supervisory experience within the civil discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with roadway construction, mass grading elements, and slip-form paving activities.
  • Intermediate understanding of production management including scheduling.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
