About the position

W. W. Clyde & Co. is seeking a dedicated Field Engineer to join our team in the Heavy Civil Construction sector. With over 92 years of experience, we pride ourselves on delivering quality projects and innovative solutions across the Intermountain West. The Field Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Manager and/or Project Superintendent in various aspects of project management. This position is based in Orem, UT, but will require travel throughout Utah and the surrounding states depending on project needs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that construction work adheres to engineering standards, drawings, codes, and specifications, while also fostering strong relationships with vendors, owners, subcontractors, and internal support groups. As a Field Engineer, you will be tasked with providing technical engineering information to supervisors and crafts, assisting with subcontract coordination, contract administration, and the creation and revision of work plans, budgets, and schedules. You will also manage and inspect SWPPP plans to ensure compliance with governing agencies, perform basic field layout and construction surveys, and complete other directives as assigned by your direct supervisor. This role requires a commitment to maintaining an insurable driving record and a willingness to travel as needed for project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering information to supervisors and crafts to ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards, drawings, codes, and specifications.
  • Assist with subcontract coordination, contract administration, submittals, creation and revision of work plans, budgets, schedules, change orders, and field verification of quantities and work performed.
  • Develop good working relationships and communicate with vendors, owners, subcontractors, and company support groups.
  • Manage, inspect, and coordinate SWPPP plans to maintain compliance with governing agencies.
  • Perform basic field layout and construction survey.
  • Complete other directives as assigned by your direct supervisor.
  • Maintain an insurable driving record.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Entry Level to 2 years of experience as a Field Engineer in the Heavy Civil Construction industry.
  • Basic knowledge of construction industry, equipment, techniques, drawings & specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings and specifications and performing geometric calculations.
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with others.
  • Skilled in assuming responsibility and reaching deadlines.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be willing and able to travel.
