About the position

The Field Engineer position at Granite Construction Inc. is focused on providing technical engineering support and ensuring compliance with engineering standards in heavy civil construction projects. The role involves collaborating with various on-site departments, interpreting design specifications, and managing project documentation to facilitate quality construction and adherence to project schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
  • Interpret design/drawings for craft workers installing material to ensure specifications are followed.
  • Interface with all on-site departments as required, to resolve problems and ensure quality construction.
  • Research and recommend resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference, and errors.
  • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports and punch lists.
  • Provide technical support and direction regarding project material controls including delivery dates and construction schedules.
  • Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, and estimates.
  • Provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials.
  • Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man hour, and equipment.
  • Research historical data and productivity analysis reports to compile summary reports for future estimates.
  • May supervise, direct, and mentor project staff to ensure individual development and project standards are met.
  • Assist in representing company, project and/or department during client and project management meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Experience in heavy civil construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management software.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with cost estimation and budgeting processes.
