About the position

As a Field Engineer at Sundt, you will be joining a 100% employee-owned contractor that emphasizes a culture of ownership and investment in work. This role is pivotal in assisting the Project Engineer by serving as the technical source of information for various projects, particularly those involving earthwork. You will be responsible for responding to inquiries regarding drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Additionally, you will assist in writing change orders, Requests for Information (RFIs), meeting minutes, and reviewing submittals. Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers is essential to your success in this position. The Field Engineer position is structured into three levels: Step I, Step II, and Senior. Step I is designed for entry-level individuals with minimal experience, while Step II is for those with at least two years of experience or those who have worked on larger, more complex projects. The Senior level is reserved for individuals with over four years of experience or those who have managed significantly larger or more complex projects. This structured progression allows for personal and professional growth within the company. In this role, you will also be involved in various project management activities, including the development and maintenance of as-built drawings, processing submittals, and ensuring compliance with the project management plan (PMP). You will play a key role in quality management and safety culture on-site, and may assist in calculating daily production rates and unit costs for self-performed work. Your responsibilities may also extend to overseeing BIM coordination and documentation for LEED certification, as well as maintaining accurate quantity logs and reports to support cost control efforts. Overall, this position is integral to the successful execution of projects and the achievement of company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Project Engineer in developing and maintaining as-built drawings and other work tasks.
  • Reviews and processes submittals, change orders, RFIs, and budget forecasting.
  • Ensures timely generation, collection, distribution, storage, retrieval, and disposition of meeting agendas, RFIs, and daily reports.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the project management plan (PMP) and supports its execution.
  • Ensures administration of the project quality management plan and promotes a culture of safety.
  • May assist in calculating daily production rates and unit costs for self-performed work.
  • Participates in risk management including identification, analysis, response planning, and monitoring.
  • May oversee BIM coordination between subcontractors and designers.
  • May document and submit for LEED certification and create/update Digital Record Drawings.
  • Maintains accurate quantity logs and reports quantities in compliance with the cost control manual.
  • Provides support to superintendents for the execution of work and assists in resolving field problems.

Requirements

  • Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others.
  • Entry-level position requiring a four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical/field experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
