About the position

As a Field Engineer specializing in Structures, you will play a crucial role in the multibillion-dollar Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel expansion project. Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical engineering information to ensure that construction work adheres to all engineering standards, codes, and contract specifications. This position involves close collaboration with project crews, managing project data, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Meet daily with project crews to review production schedule and confirm availability of materials, equipment, and resources.
  • Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data to ensure compliance with quality and contract specifications.
  • Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying risk elements that could impact budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to track project performance and document daily activities.
  • Notify team members and management of significant schedule changes and recommend solutions.
  • Remit accurate project quantity input and manage cost coding for project financials.
  • Review and approve daily timecards for construction crews and resolve inquiries as needed.
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance and manage necessary documentation regarding construction production.
  • Plan field layout on the project site and manage permits needed before work begins.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to ensure a safe work environment and attend weekly safety meetings.
  • Assist the estimating team with project schedules and provide technical input as needed.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews as necessary.
  • Reconcile job close-out checklist with owner representatives and field crews at project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.
  • 1+ years of construction engineering experience required.
  • Beginner knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications, and building materials.
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Proven self-starter and self-motivated to learn and grow knowledge.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management.
