About the position

The Field Engineer position at PCL Construction involves contributing to a significant water treatment plant project in Gilbert, Arizona. The role focuses on civil engineering within large-scale water infrastructure projects, emphasizing safety, quality control, and effective communication. The Field Engineer will mentor others, coordinate with superintendents, and maintain project documentation, all while fostering positive relationships with partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Mentors and leads inspections and orientations, identifies hazards and corrections, and leads by example for health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Coordinates with superintendent on workforce planning.
  • Maintains project document control and procedures, supporting project engineers and/or superintendents to lead trade contractors, including requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, changes, and billings.
  • Participates in the supervision of self-perform scopes, including resolving crew sizes, labor tracking, and quantity tracking for Labor Cost Reports (LCRs).
  • Mentors and coaches field engineers and students/interns.
  • Identifies issues on-site or in defined work scopes.
  • Coordinates third-party inspections and site reviews.
  • Participates in crafting, implementing, and supervising quality plan, Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships focusing on all partners.

Requirements

  • Associates or bachelor's degree in a related field: construction management, engineering, architecture preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 0 to 8-12 months of varied experience as field engineer/coordinator preferred; time acquired during internships in the field may count as experience.
  • Knowledge of construction specifications, methods, and procedures (e.g., formwork methodologies, self-perform work, subcontracted work scopes, temporary work, equipment, and scheduling techniques).
  • Understands and applies construction principles to problem solve.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with supervisors and subcontractors, and reports.
  • Proven track record to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Writes clear technical communication to trade contractors, designers, and inspectors.
  • Develops and maintains effective partner relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction-related software.
