About the position
GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. is seeking a Field Engineering Technician to support geotechnical, dams, waterfront engineering, and environmental consulting practices. This role involves working on-site at various project locations, with some office and training duties. The technician will collaborate with experienced professionals, gaining diverse skills and contributing to a strong team environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
- Field oversight and logging of subsurface explorations and classification of soil and bedrock.
- Soil and groundwater sampling for geotechnical and environmental analyses.
- Concrete sampling and testing in accordance with ACI codes and project-specific requirements.
- Perform on-site construction oversight and inspections for foundation construction and ground improvement.
- Conduct in-place density testing of soils using various methods.
- Perform environmental sampling of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
- Monitor environmental remediation efforts.
- Gather data for engineering deliverables and prepare inspection reports.
- Compile and organize data collected by others.
- Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and team members.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education/experience.
- 0 - 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and reliable transportation.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior geotechnical and/or environmental-related experience.
- 10-hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Training.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER Training.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Certification.
- Nuclear Gauge Operator Safety Training.
- NETTCP certifications for various inspection roles.
- Massachusetts Title V Licensed System Inspector and Licensed Soil Evaluator.
