About the position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. is seeking a Field Engineering Technician to support geotechnical, dams, waterfront engineering, and environmental consulting practices. This role involves working on-site at various project locations, with some office and training duties. The technician will collaborate with experienced professionals, gaining diverse skills and contributing to a strong team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
  • Field oversight and logging of subsurface explorations and classification of soil and bedrock.
  • Soil and groundwater sampling for geotechnical and environmental analyses.
  • Concrete sampling and testing in accordance with ACI codes and project-specific requirements.
  • Perform on-site construction oversight and inspections for foundation construction and ground improvement.
  • Conduct in-place density testing of soils using various methods.
  • Perform environmental sampling of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
  • Monitor environmental remediation efforts.
  • Gather data for engineering deliverables and prepare inspection reports.
  • Compile and organize data collected by others.
  • Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and team members.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education/experience.
  • 0 - 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and reliable transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior geotechnical and/or environmental-related experience.
  • 10-hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Training.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Training.
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Certification.
  • Nuclear Gauge Operator Safety Training.
  • NETTCP certifications for various inspection roles.
  • Massachusetts Title V Licensed System Inspector and Licensed Soil Evaluator.
