About the position

The Field Estimator position at Southern Company involves fieldwork, drawing, estimating, and processing paperwork for overhead and underground services to customers. The role requires significant interaction with developers, builders, inspectors, and contractors, emphasizing effective communication and customer service. The estimator will support engineering and line departments, estimate monthly blankets, conduct field investigations, and design residential projects, while also being part of an on-call rotation for emergency responses.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations for orders and estimate monthly blankets.
• Create residential loading sheets and support residential load analysis.
• Design and estimate single-family home residential projects.
• Provide general support to engineering and line departments.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for emergency assistance after hours.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; some college or technical certification is a plus.
• 3+ years of experience in a Power Utility or commercial/industrial/residential electrician experience preferred.
• General engineering and construction knowledge preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical operations and distribution systems preferred.
• Experience with drafting and engineering design software, GIS products, and load estimating tools preferred.
• Good computer skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with JETS, ARMS, Socket, AutoCAD, GIS products, CSS, CIT, iCLEAR, and LEADS tools preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.
• Experience designing and estimating distribution facilities preferred.
