About the position

Yesway is seeking an IT Support Technician to join our team in Des Moines, IA. As one of the fastest-growing convenience store operators in the United States, we pride ourselves on our commitment to providing exceptional service and support to our retail locations. The IT Support Technician will be responsible for resolving a range of retail site systems issues that span multiple hardware and software environments. This role is critical in ensuring that our retail systems infrastructure, including point of sale systems, back office operations, credit processing, and fuel network systems, operates smoothly and efficiently. In this position, you will assist in the conversion from Gilbarco/Passport to Verifone/Commander systems and provide ongoing support for these systems. You will lead efforts to establish standards for POS configuration and usage, perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, and ensure that all systems and applications are configured according to defined procedures. The role requires travel to various stores, with technicians typically managing around 30 stores in their region. You may spend up to 4 hours driving a company-provided vehicle to reach these locations. The IT Support Technician will also lead projects related to hardware and software releases, oversee onsite regional store migrations, and adhere to defined help desk request and problem-solving processes utilizing ServiceNow. You will be responsible for testing fixes to ensure that problems have been adequately resolved and for evaluating documented resolutions to analyze trends that can help prevent future issues. This position requires some travel and may involve after-hours, weekend, and holiday work, as well as participation in a 7x24x365 on-call support rotation process.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve basic to complex retail site systems issues spanning multiple hardware and software environments in an expedient manner.
  • Support Yesway retail systems infrastructure including point of sale, back office, credit, fuel network, NRV/DVR (March Networks), and related systems.
  • Assist in the conversion from Gilbarco/Passport to Verifone/Commander system and provide continued support.
  • Lead efforts to establish standards for POS configuration and usage.
  • Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, and configuring systems and applications per defined procedures.
  • Travel to various stores, spending up to 4 hours driving a company-provided vehicle.
  • Lead projects related to hardware and software releases and roll-outs, and lead onsite regional store migrations.
  • Adhere to defined help desk request- and problem-solving processes utilizing ServiceNow.
  • Test fixes to ensure problems have been adequately resolved and evaluate documented resolutions to analyze trends for future prevention.
  • Escalate problems when required and alert management to emerging trends in incidents.
  • Support batch/data polling processes to ensure optimal performance and participate in 7x24x365 on-call support rotation process.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Bachelor's degree plus three-to-five years' experience.
  • POS certification, ITIL Foundation, CompTIA A+, HDI TSP certifications are a plus.
  • Prior experience with Passport and Commander POS, NVR/DVR systems (March Networks), credit processing, and other convenience store tech experience are a plus.
  • Experience pulling low volt cabling, terminating CAT3, CAT5, Coax, CCTV, and alarm cabling.
  • Ability to mount faceplates, perform punch-downs, labeling, closet or rack builds, patch panels, and other equipment as needed.
  • Experience using multi-meters and toners to test low volt cabling continuity, connectivity, and voltage presence.
  • Proven ability to lead and train 3rd-party contractors.
  • Proven knowledge of Windows operating systems, PCs, printers, networking hardware and protocols, and other hardware such as hard drives, video cards, cabling, routers, and hubs.
  • Experience with PDI/Enterprise 8 is a plus.
  • Experience using productivity software (MS Office and remote support tools).
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
