About the position
The position involves performing various physical labor tasks related to construction and excavation. The individual will be responsible for digging ditches or trenches, backfilling excavations, and compacting and leveling earth to meet grade specifications. This role requires a strong focus on safety and the ability to work in challenging weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical labor including digging ditches or trenches, backfilling excavations, and compacting and leveling earth.
- Load, unload, identify, and distribute materials to the appropriate location.
- Set final trench grades by hand digging or using trenching tools.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Work collaboratively with crew members and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Requirements
- Ability to perform physical labor and lift/carry tools and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Safety conscious with good vision and hearing capabilities.
- Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch in confined spaces such as ditches and trench boxes.
- Reliable transportation to assigned work site.
- Willingness to work full days in extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, dust, rain, and snow.
