About the position

The Field Lead position at Highwater Farm is a seasonal role focused on supporting all aspects of farm management, particularly in vegetable production and land management. The role involves hands-on work in various farming tasks and requires a commitment to sustainable agriculture practices. The position is designed for individuals who are enthusiastic about food production and willing to learn in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist Farm Manager in leading vegetable production throughout the season including seeding, greenhouse management, cultivation and bed prep, transplanting, irrigation, weed and pest management, harvesting, washing, and marketing crops.
• Manage on-farm CSA distribution and wholesale orders.
• Manage volunteers on the farm and basic data collection.
• Train and lead youth program participants in fieldwork and farm tasks.
• Share Saturday and Sunday greenhouse/irrigation chores among staff on a rotating basis.
• Conduct monthly check-ins with the Executive Director.

Requirements

• One season of farming experience or equivalent outdoor exposure is recommended.
• Willingness to learn and be involved in all areas of food production is required.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
• Ability to work long hours in all types of weather conditions.
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm for sustainable food production.
• Flexibility to work with shifting timelines and schedules.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational skills, dependability, and flexibility.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to safely operate tractors and other farm equipment preferred, but not required.
