About the position

The Field Maintenance Technician role at Patterson-UTI involves traveling to drilling rig locations to perform essential maintenance and repair tasks on various drilling equipment. This position is critical for ensuring the reliability and safety of equipment used in drilling operations. Technicians will be responsible for servicing, testing, and troubleshooting equipment, as well as providing support and training to operational crews.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to drilling rig locations to perform maintenance duties.
  • Service, repair, and adjust drilling equipment to ensure smooth operations.
  • Test drilling equipment for safety and reliability.
  • Provide support and training to operational crews in preventative maintenance checks and services.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical faults and coordinate repairs.
  • Document findings of technical inspections on various drilling equipment.
  • Participate in maintenance-related projects on the rig with crew or third-party support.
  • Develop and monitor spare and replacement parts listings for specific equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem-solving on assigned equipment and assets.
  • Assist operations in designated maintenance and policy implementation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and eligibility to drive a company vehicle.
  • One year of stable related work history in engine, mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical repairs, or active enrollment in technical training or advanced education in a relevant vocational field for Assistant Field Maintenance Technician.
  • Two years of stable related work history in field maintenance or one year of troubleshooting and repair experience for Field Maintenance Technician 1.
  • Three years of stable related work history in field maintenance or two years in troubleshooting and repair of drilling rig equipment for Field Maintenance Technician 2.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of technical training or advanced education courses.
  • Experience with automation and control systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation and electronics control systems.
  • Diesel technology and power generation experience.
  • Field maintenance experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience with specific equipment such as Caterpillar engines and various drilling systems.
