About the position

The Field Maintenance Worker in the Sewer Division is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance tasks related to the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems. This role involves operating heavy construction equipment, performing inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety standards while participating in emergency response activities.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain heavy construction equipment, vehicles, tools, and supplies.
  • Operate construction equipment and vehicles, including specialized CCTV and cleaning/jetting equipment for sewer lines.
  • Excavate, expose, and repair sewer infrastructure using manual or mechanical methods.
  • Follow appropriate safety standards and procedures, including confined space and trench safety.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and work overtime for emergencies and severe weather.
  • Remove trash and obstructions from sewerage or storm water flow.
  • Clean and remove debris from storm and sanitary sewer systems, manholes, inlets, and culverts.
  • Enter utility structures and crawl through sewers to locate damage or obstructions.
  • Locate and excavate buried manholes and underground sewer infrastructure.
  • Assist in inspecting sewer infrastructure for damage and operate sewer camera inspection equipment.
  • Repair and replace defective or broken sewer infrastructure.
  • Perform duties of Street Maintenance Worker, including snow and ice control operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of underground utility systems and methods used in maintenance, construction, and repair of sewer infrastructure.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Missouri Class A Commercial Drivers License with air brakes and tanker endorsements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with heavy construction equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of safety standards related to sewer maintenance.
