About the position

As a Field Mechanical Engineer specializing in Mine Hoist systems at ABB, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of our hoisting systems. This position is pivotal as it serves as the primary contact for all technical aspects following the system startup. You will lead the maintenance program for hoist systems, providing both on-site and remote technical support for the installation and commissioning of equipment, as well as routine maintenance. Your expertise will be essential in identifying technical problems and conducting thorough analyses through both remote and on-site activities across various service categories. In this role, you will conduct mechanical hoisting system inspections and audits to ensure that the systems operate correctly and meet safety standards. You will consult with and advise customers on the best service solutions, adhering to established processes, procedures, and safety guidelines. Your ability to identify potential equipment failures will be critical, as you will be responsible for taking corrective actions, troubleshooting complex equipment failures, and making recommendations to prevent future issues. Timely reporting of work done and following up on outstanding issues will be part of your responsibilities, as will making suggestions for product, quality, and customer service improvements, which you will discuss with management. Hands-on support at customer sites will be a significant aspect of your job, requiring you to engage directly with clients to ensure their needs are met effectively. This position demands a strong customer focus and the ability to relate well to customer needs, ensuring that ABB maintains its reputation for excellent service and support in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as contact for all technical aspects after the system start up.
  • Lead the maintenance program for the hoist systems.
  • Provide on-site or remote technical support for installation and commissioning of equipment and routine maintenance.
  • Identify technical problems and conduct analysis through remote or on-site activity in different service categories.
  • Conduct mechanical hoisting system inspections and audits to ensure proper operation and safety levels of the system.
  • Consult with and advise customers on the best service solutions in accordance with standard processes, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Identify potential equipment failures and take corrective actions, troubleshooting complex equipment failures.
  • Make recommendations to avoid future problems.
  • Report work done in a timely manner and follow up when needed.
  • Make suggestions for product, quality, and customer service improvements and discuss them with management.
  • Provide hands-on support at customer sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required, preferably mechanical.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience with industrial systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with mine hoist systems are a definite asset.
  • Strong customer focus and the ability to relate well to customer needs.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and brake control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial cooling systems.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D modeling would be an asset.
  • Experience in the Mining Industry would be an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined service environment often under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write reports and speak effectively before customers or employees.
  • Valid passport and driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D modeling would be an asset.
  • Experience in the Mining Industry would be an asset.
