About the position

The Field Medical Director/Sr Director for Ophthalmology at Annexon Biosciences is a key medical expert within the Medical Affairs team, responsible for engaging with thought leaders and healthcare professionals to advance the company's clinical platform of therapies for neuroinflammatory diseases. This role involves developing professional relationships, collaborating on research projects, and delivering education on Annexon's products, all while ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with Thought Leaders (TLs) through compliant scientific exchange.
  • Collaborate with TLs on research projects, national and regional advisory boards, and educational initiatives.
  • Maintain expertise in ocular diseases and treatment landscapes with a patient-centric mindset.
  • Identify high-impact medical research projects and publication opportunities.
  • Build lasting professional relationships with TLs and Centers of Excellence & Research (COERs).
  • Attend meetings and congresses to engage in scientific exchange and share data on Annexon products.
  • Respond to healthcare professionals with integrity and adherence to regulations.
  • Partner with Patient Advocacy Organizations to integrate patient voices into communications.
  • Deliver education on Annexon's science and product data to decision-makers and payers.
  • Develop and execute tailored scientific engagement plans for TLs and HCPs.
  • Support Clinical Development and Clinical Operations activities, including site identification and patient recruitment.
  • Ensure strong collaboration with cross-functional field partners.
  • Serve as the Medical Expert and field representative for Medical Directors.

Requirements

  • Scientific, healthcare or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, OD).
  • 4 to 6 years of field-based experience in biopharmaceutical industry for FMD; 6+ years for FMSD.
  • Successful track record in medical affairs and delivering results.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build scientific relationships with TLs and stakeholders.
  • Effective collaboration within a matrix organization.
  • Solid knowledge of the healthcare landscape and drug development process.
  • Ability to document insights and complete administrative tasks timely.
  • Capable of working independently and prioritizing tasks.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory landscape.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in medical affairs and/or clinical R&D.
  • Therapeutic experience in ophthalmology/retina.
