About the position

The Field Operations/Grounds Crew Internship at the Oklahoma City Baseball Club offers a hands-on opportunity for individuals interested in turf management and facility operations. Interns will engage in various cultural practices essential for maintaining baseball fields, including mowing, fertilizing, and irrigation. This role is ideal for those looking to gain practical experience in grounds maintenance while working in a dynamic sports environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform cultural practices such as mowing, topdressing, aerifying, and fertilizing.
• Conduct clay work including maintenance of infield skin, mound, homeplate, bullpen, and warning track.
• Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and restoration of grounds as directed.
• Prepare the field before and after games, including field marking, dragging, raking, and tarp removal.
• Set up and break down equipment for batting practice and games.
• Drag the infield between innings as directed.
• Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, gators, and sod cutters.
• Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, and tamps.
• Ensure proper equipment use and adherence to safety standards.
• Maintain, clean, and repair tools, equipment, and structures.
• Gather and remove litter from the grounds.
• Provide support in other stadium activities and special events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a two or four-year Turfgrass or Horticultural Program.
• Strong communication and people skills.
• Self-motivated with a willingness and eagerness to learn.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to work mornings, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift 60 lbs continuously.
• Ability to perform in adverse weather situations.
• Prior baseball field maintenance experience is preferred but not required.

Benefits

• Pay rate of $15.00-$19.00 per hour plus overtime pay (1.5x hourly rate for hours worked over 40 in a week).
