About the position

The Field Operations Supervisor position is responsible for overseeing the Forestry Section of the Grounds Management Division within the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Oklahoma City. This role involves supervising field maintenance and construction activities, managing work assignments, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and maintaining quality standards in workmanship. The supervisor will also handle administrative duties related to project management, budget preparation, and responding to citizen inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and distribute assignments to specialized work units or multiple work crews.
  • Review work orders and schedule work activities.
  • Demonstrate proper safety and work procedures to subordinates.
  • Compile information for reports, budget, goals, and objectives.
  • Perform routine inspections of work in progress and upon completion.
  • Record and report work progress.
  • Maintain records of maintenance and equipment usage.
  • Respond to routine citizen complaints or inquiries.

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying supervisory practices.
  • Knowledge of and skill in demonstrating work and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of subordinate's duties and responsibilities.
  • Skill in communicating effectively.
  • Skill in coordinating multiple work assignments.
  • Skill in standard report preparation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to make decisions and set priorities.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility for workers and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid driver license or Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Possession of required Class Certification dependent on position(s) supervised.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Natural Resources or a related field.
  • Five or more years of successful experience supervising and coordinating Forestry crews.
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ).
  • Strong computer skills utilizing Word, Excel, Treekeeper, ArcGIS, GPS, and other database programs.
