About the position

The Field Operations Supervisor is responsible for strategically managing the day-to-day activities of the Jersey City water distribution system, ensuring compliance with service agreements and regulatory requirements. This role involves overseeing field staff, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of water distribution facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day activities of the Jersey City Water Distribution system.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to field staff for operations, maintenance, and repair of system facilities.
  • Conduct notifications as required for system shutdowns and startups.
  • Plan and forecast necessary resources to support projects with existing staff and contractors.
  • Implement and ensure quality assurance/quality control for network assets.
  • Meet regularly with staff to discuss work plans and department goals.
  • Coordinate scheduling of major work with the Engineering Department and client representatives.
  • Prepare work plans for major maintenance projects and develop standard operating procedures.
  • Liaise with municipal, county, and state officials to coordinate activities and resolve concerns.
  • Take lead role in liaising with emergency agencies during situations.
  • Manage Night Inspectors and oversee planned distribution night work.
  • Prepare the department's annual budget and monitor operational costs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in public water supply transmission and distribution systems.
  • 2-3 years of experience in distribution or construction field.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of hydraulic principles related to piping networks.
  • Ability to use electronic mapping software (GIS/GPS).
  • Experience with CMMS maintenance software.

  • Ability to cope with emergency situations on a 24/7 basis.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
