About the position

Oxford Instruments is searching for a Field Process Engineer (FPE) to join a team of innovative and dedicated professionals. The FPE will ensure that Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology equipment is fully functional and available for customer use, which will involve regular extensive travel on a worldwide basis. The ideal candidate will respond quickly to process issues in the field during emergency breakdowns, warranty service, and service contract work, providing technical process troubleshooting and liaising with customers. The FPE should have a good awareness of the demands associated with handling hazardous materials and manage the risks appropriately. In this role, effective and accurate communication must be maintained between all relevant parties, ensuring that information is fed back to Service Management, Process Management, and the Sales Team for effective updates. The FPE will demonstrate process performance of tools installed at customer sites to pass customer acceptance tests and achieve system acceptance, which may involve foreign travel. Developing an excellent working knowledge of the technology is crucial for facilitating fault finding and root cause analysis on processing results or equipment performance to deliver optimized process and hardware performance. The FPE will also carry out customer training both at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology (OIPT) and at customer sites, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the Company's Health and Safety and ISO9001 Quality procedures. Liaising with the Sales Team is essential to ensure complete alignment with customer expectations and all relevant background information. The FPE will help maintain an accurate record of the system's status, timing of warranty, parts supplied, service contracts, and failures to analyze trends effectively. Keeping up-to-date with all relevant enquiry and project files on significant information is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the FPE will provide a detailed and accurate record of expenses incurred on behalf of the Company.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective and accurate communication is maintained between all relevant parties.

  • Carry out customer training both at OIPT and at customer sites.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the Company's Health and Safety and ISO9001 Quality procedures.
  • Liaise with Sales Team to ensure complete alignment with customer expectations and all relevant background information.
  • Help maintain an accurate record of the status of the system, timing of warranty, parts supplied, service contracts and failures.
  • Keep up-to-date all relevant enquiry and project files on any significant information.
  • Provide detailed and accurate record of expenses incurred on behalf of the Company.

Requirements

  • A relevant science or engineering degree, preferably in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Significant experience with the semiconductor industry or relevant experience in an academic institution.
  • Experience with Thin film measuring (e.g SEM, AFM, etc.).
  • Experience with at least one of the following: Ion Beam (Deposition and / or Etch) and/or General deposition or etch experience.
  • Self-starting, diligent and enthusiastic team player who can work independently and manage their own time.
  • Highly innovative with good lateral thinking skills for identifying opportunities for technology development applications.
  • Focused on excellent customer service with good diagnostic skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to articulate, present and report on technical or complex issues clearly and succinctly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a customer-facing role in a technical capacity.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations related to hazardous materials.
