About the position

TSU is seeking a Safety Specialist with expertise in underground electric and gas installations to join their Safety Department. The role focuses on promoting safety practices among a large workforce, conducting safety audits, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and training programs.

Responsibilities

• Motivates a workforce of over 500 workers to practice safe operating procedures 100% of the time to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Investigates underground utility damage, personal injury, vehicle, and property damage claims, compiling data and preparing reports as per safety procedures.
• Conducts jobsite safety audits to ensure compliance with company safety programs, policies, and OSHA standards, documenting results and recommending solutions to hazardous conditions.
• Responds to emergency situations, conducts post-accident root cause analysis, and implements actions to drive safety improvements.
• Arranges and conducts Annual Compliance Training, including HAZMAT, CPR/First Aid, and other safety-related training.
• Ensures proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and conducts safety training meetings.
• Manages the Company's Substance Abuse Prevention program.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years experience in construction safety and the installation of underground utilities including gas and electric.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of OSHA standards 1910 and 1926.
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures.
• Certification in safety-related discipline preferred.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Classroom-style training experience.
• Current driver's license with a good record over the past 3 years.
• Associate's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
• Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
