About the position

The Field Sales Rep II for Crop Protection in Central Illinois is responsible for achieving sales targets for Bayer products, developing dealer business plans, and serving as a key business consultant to retailers and dealers. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to maximize sales and services, managing inventory, and analyzing market data to drive business decisions. The position requires a strong focus on customer relationships and mentoring junior staff while ensuring compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve assigned targets with Bayer products in coordination with pod-mates.
  • Develop and implement dealer business plans, manage forecasting proactively, and address inventory management and product line demand issues.
  • Serve as the key business consultant to retailers and dealers, effectively selling the value of Bayer Crop Science products.
  • Demonstrate proof of product performance against the competition and champion Bayer brands and product knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Field Sales Representatives, Customer Business Advisors, and Agronomists to maximize services and sales to preferred growers and key customer accounts.
  • Manage inventory concerns to meet business objectives.
  • Gather, analyze, and utilize market and competitive information to drive business decisions.
  • Follow strategies for achieving long and short business plans for key accounts and assigned areas.
  • Manage expenses and program payments per Bayer Crop Science policy.
  • Expand selling skills and product knowledge proactively.
  • Ensure achievement of program execution and fulfillment, including marketing initiatives.
  • Partner with pod-mate FSRs and manage relationships with top growers and retailers.
  • Act as a mentor to FSR interns and junior FSRs as requested by leadership.
  • Manage area claims per Bayer Crop Science policy through effective problem solving and resource management.
  • Travel approximately 60% primarily for day travel within the designated geography.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, oral, and written).
  • Demonstrated initiative, assertiveness, and ability to drive results.
  • Strong business acumen, account planning, influencing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in financial, time, and territory management.
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and matrixed environment.
  • Strong computer and presentation skills (proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated digital acumen and ability to analyze data to influence decisions.
  • Willingness to travel and live/work in a rural environment.
  • Proven interest in supporting collaboration and teamwork within a pod structure.
  • Ability to pass a driving record background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in Sales, marketing, account management, or agriculture.
  • Demonstrated product, portfolio, and agronomic knowledge.
