About the position

The Field Service Control Engineer (FSCE) at Hitachi Energy will be part of the Power Grids Grid Integration Service team, focusing on control systems for various customer installations. This role involves working closely with commissioning and service teams to ensure the effective operation of control systems throughout the plant's lifecycle, including fault tracing, design support, and on-site commissioning. The FSCE will also provide training and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance service delivery and internal processes.

Responsibilities

  • Work in challenging service and project environments to meet customer requirements related to control systems.
  • Act as primary support for service team and customers in the field and via phone.
  • Perform fault tracing, commissioning, correction, implementation, and verification of control system elements.
  • Deliver control system focused training to internal teams and customers.
  • Collaborate with team members to evolve internal processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Automatic Control Theory, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with controls, PLCs, and process automation in industrial or power industries.
  • Knowledge of computer-based control systems and substation products.
  • Familiarity with Power Electronics, SVC, SC, or HVDC technologies is a plus.
  • Understanding of electrical safety measures, safety regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards (ANSI, CSA, IEC, etc.).
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel within North America and abroad for extended periods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the power industry or with power systems engineering.
  • Familiarity with advanced troubleshooting techniques for control systems.
