About the position

The Field Service Electrical Engineer position at Baker Hughes is a critical role within the BRUSH Generators team, focusing on delivering exceptional service to customers in the energy sector. This position is primarily remote, based in Houston, and involves providing electrical and winding repair services for a variety of original equipment, including generators, motors, and ancillary systems. The engineer will be responsible for interpreting machine performance data, instrumentation readings, and technical specifications to effectively understand job requirements and assist in the execution of job functions. In this role, the engineer will also be tasked with overhauling and cleaning large generators, which includes mechanical strip down and rebuild processes. A significant aspect of the job involves promoting aftermarket business, which includes parts sales and the installation, commissioning, overhaul, and maintenance of BRUSH supplied equipment. Familiarity with various equipment such as GE EX2000, EX2100, EX2200, and other generator control systems is desired. The engineer will compose detailed technical reports for customer acceptance and documentation of work performed on-site, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other industry standards to protect life and property. Additionally, the engineer will act as a liaison between the customer and BRUSH during technical meetings to ensure satisfactory service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical and winding repair services to customers operating generators, motors, and ancillary systems.
  • Interpret machine performance data, instrumentation readings, and technical specifications to understand job scope requirements.
  • Overhaul and clean large generators, including mechanical strip down and rebuild.
  • Promote aftermarket business related to parts sales and maintenance of BRUSH supplied equipment.
  • Compose detailed technical reports for customer acceptance and documentation of work performed on-site.
  • Comply with OSHA, BRUSH, and industry standard health and safety practices.
  • Attend technical meetings as a liaison between the customer and BRUSH.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school.
  • 2 years of field service experience with generator and/or winding experience.
  • Competency with basic hand tools, multi-meters, megger, rigging, generator special tooling, and HIPot.
  • Familiarity with generator, stator, and rotor control curves, power generation setup, and high voltage power distribution markets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with GE EX2000, EX2100, EX2200, Bozler, Siemens, ABB, ALSTOM excitation, Load Commutating Inverters, and silicon control rectifiers.
