About the position

As a Field Service Engineer at Sartorius, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance of our systems through installation, commissioning, calibration, and preventative maintenance. Your daily responsibilities will include performing break/fix repairs across a range of Sartorius systems, maintaining fault-finding data, and providing feedback on product performance to both customers and internal teams. You will be expected to adhere to all service procedures to keep customer information and product software/configuration accurate and up to date. Additionally, you will be responsible for keeping detailed records of your time, expenses, and work performed, making independent decisions regarding the repair of field equipment based on service level agreements and customer support contracts. In this role, you will acquire in-depth product knowledge and demonstrate a commitment to self-improvement. Collaboration with teams will be essential, especially when escalating system issues that cannot be resolved independently. The position is field-based, requiring a willingness to travel up to approximately 80% within the assigned Midwest territory, primarily Southern Wisconsin or Northern Illinois, with occasional travel outside this area. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently to move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation and commissioning of Sartorius systems.
  • Conduct calibration and preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Execute break/fix repairs across various Sartorius systems.
  • Maintain fault-finding data and provide product performance feedback to customers and internal teams.
  • Follow service procedures to ensure customer information and product software/configuration are accurate.
  • Keep accurate records of time, expenses, and work performed.
  • Make independent decisions regarding the repair of field equipment based on service level agreements and customer support contracts.
  • Acquire in-depth product knowledge and demonstrate self-improvement.
  • Collaborate with teams to escalate unresolved system issues to relevant support engineers.

Requirements

  • Completed an Associate's Degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or equivalent military or trade school certificates in electronics/electrical technology.
  • Formal training in mechanical/electrical hardware set-up and configuration.
  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience in a commissioning/test or field service/support environment within high-tech engineering/manufacturing companies.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and I/O fault-finding at system and component level.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics, motors, conveyor systems, input/output modules, optical readers, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience configuring PCs and installing software packages (Windows OS).
  • Proficient with MS Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automation and robotics.
  • Knowledge of clean room protocols, drug discovery, process development, and cell culture technologies.
  • Understanding of both Mammalian and Microbial cell cultures growth in bioreactors.
