About the position

The Field Service Engineer position at BD is a critical role that involves providing installation, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance on BD Life Sciences equipment. This field-based, customer-facing role requires the engineer to work directly at customer sites, which include clinical and research laboratories. The engineer will be responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining medical devices, ensuring that they operate effectively and efficiently. This position is essential in supporting BD's commitment to customer satisfaction and quality service, as the Field Service Engineer represents the company to its customers. In this role, the Field Service Engineer will tackle system failures and provide on-site repairs, ensuring timely and effective solutions to any issues that arise. The engineer will also handle various company assets, including a company car, cell phone, computer, tablet, tools, and inventory parts. Establishing and developing positive business relationships with customers and peers is crucial, as is performing administrative duties such as recording time worked, training, and expense reporting. The engineer will provide ongoing feedback to customers regarding instrument repair and status, and will regularly interface with the Technical Support organization to deliver the highest level of customer support. The Field Service Engineer will work closely with district team leads and dispatch to schedule and support the customer base, ensuring that all service requests are handled efficiently. This position requires compliance with all quality, GMP, ISO, and safety regulations, as well as adherence to company travel policies. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service, preventive maintenance, modifications, and installations of BD Life Sciences equipment at customer sites with minimal direction.
  • Tackle system failures and provide on-site customer repairs; responsible for delivering both timely and effective repairs.
  • Handle company assets including company car, cell phone, computer, tablet, tools, inventory parts, etc.
  • Establish and develop positive business relationships with customers and peers.
  • Perform administrative duties including recording time worked, training, expense reporting, etc.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to customers regarding instrument repair and status.
  • Interface regularly with the Technical Support organization to provide the highest level of customer support.
  • Work closely with district team leads and dispatch to schedule and support the customer base.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Associate degree in electrical, mechanical or similar engineering or Biomed program preferred.
  • 4 years' proven experience or military equivalent preferred.
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and be able to apply computer-based tools for reports, email and general communication.
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team setting.
  • Must be able to work with customers, peers, and support personnel in a positive manner as well as the ability to think and act in a logical and methodical way.
  • Must be able to travel a minimum of 50%.
  • Willingness and ability to work different shifts, on-call, nights and weekends in case of need.
  • Current valid driving license and good driving record over the last 3 years is required.
