About the position

The Field Service Engineer position is a full-time, direct hire opportunity based in Hayward, CA, with immediate hiring available. This role involves significant travel, estimated at around 40%, to various locations including North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The primary responsibilities include commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, and performing preventative maintenance on Automated Plasma Treatment work cells within customer facilities. The engineer will also be responsible for repairing and refurbishing systems and subsystems related to atmospheric and vacuum plasma technology systems. In addition to technical duties, the role requires quick responses to customer requests, including emergency services and 24x7 on-call support. The engineer will schedule service calls, conduct equipment commissioning, installation, qualification, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration services. Adherence to strict occupational safety and health standards (OSHA, NPFA) is essential. The engineer will assist in maintaining the organization of materials, customer spare parts, and equipment builds, while also identifying necessary tools and resources for task completion. Training customers in the operation and maintenance of equipment is a key aspect of the role, along with providing technical support via telephone, email, and in-person. The engineer will create clear and concise commissioning procedures and troubleshooting documentation, as well as write and edit templates, operating procedures, and manuals. Coordination with cross-functional teams such as field applications, support and services, product management, manufacturing, and marketing or sales is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, troubleshoot, service and perform preventative maintenance on Automated Plasma Treatment work cells within customer facility.
  • Repair and/or refurbish systems and sub-systems for other atmospheric and/or vacuum plasma technology systems.
  • Travel primarily within North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia to install, maintain and repair equipment.
  • Respond quickly to customer requests, providing emergency services and 24x7 'On Call' support.
  • Schedule service calls with customers.
  • Conduct equipment on-site commissioning, installation, qualification, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration services.
  • Work under strict occupational safety and health standards (OSHA, NPFA).
  • Assist in maintaining organization of materials, customer spare/repair parts, and equipment builds.
  • Identify tools and resources necessary for completion of tasks.
  • Train customers in the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide telephone, email, and in-person technical support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate degree in an electro-mechanical, electrical or electronic discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in field service or similar position.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, electrical drawings, and assembly drawings.
  • Experience with factory automation or electronics devices production.
  • Experience in programming PLCs and HMIs.
  • Must have a valid passport and driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass background check and drug test.
  • Must be able to pass customer's site requirements.
