About the position

GE's Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers' power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world's major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies. The Field Service Engineer - Drives performs a wide range of commissioning and service tasks and ensures proper installation, service, and commissioning of products and services. This role is essential in providing technical support for installation and commissioning of projects, as well as maintenance, breakdown emergency support, and remote troubleshooting for the GE LV and MV drives. As a Field Service Engineer - Drives, you will be responsible for troubleshooting activities at customer site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolutions, and implement corrective actions. You will develop requisite documentation to execute work, such as commissioning procedures and maintenance procedures, and perform installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations of GE Drives and Power Systems. Additionally, you will execute on-site project management and technical leader duties to resolve customer issues and ensure customer satisfaction. Under the direction of a senior engineer, you will perform a wide range of technical tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE drive systems. Your role will also involve developing presentations and providing training and instruction to customers on drive operations, coordinating additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, and advising customers of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve productivity. You will coordinate maintenance activities for the customer and plan for inspections, provide support to engineering teams working on customer CMU's projects, and identify new opportunities for improving in-service equipment reliability and availability. Promoting sales of maintenance services and providing on-call support in response to customer calls for service will also be part of your responsibilities. Completing timely service reports and other administrative requirements, as well as supporting business growth opportunities and marketing campaigns, are essential duties of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform troubleshooting activities at customer site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop requisite documentation to execute work e.g. commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures, daily logs, etc.
  • Perform installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations of GE Drives and Power Systems.
  • Execute on-site project management and technical leader duties to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfaction.
  • Under the direction of a senior engineer, perform a wide range of technical tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE drive systems.
  • Develop presentations and provide training and instruction to customers on drive operations.
  • Coordinate additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, parts, other FSE's, repair services, sales, and product engineering teams.
  • Advise the customer of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve customer productivity and sell GE parts and services.

  • Provide support to engineering teams working on customer CMU's projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics/Power Electronics.
  • Minimum 3 years of field service and/or commissioning experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time.
  • Perform work within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in industrial settings.
  • Extended hours/overtime may be required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
  • Domestic travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or minimum 5 additional years of related industry experience in drives).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with GE Drive systems (With 2 years practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive system including: MV7000, SD7000, MV3000, MD2000, LV7000).
  • Experience of working with LV/MV Drives ABB, Siemens, AB, Vacon, and Schneider.
  • Minimum of 2 years practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive/system controller (Including PEC, PECe, CDC).
  • Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, which require considerable engineering skill and creative ability and independent judgment.
  • Possess detailed knowledge, competence, and expertise with installation and commissioning tasks and services.
  • Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office applications.
