About the position

Segra is searching for a dynamic and experienced Field Service Engineer to work within our greater Wilmington-Fayetteville-Myrtle Beach market. This position is open to candidates residing anywhere between the eastern part of North Carolina from Goldsboro all the way to Myrtle Beach, SC. The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the network, which includes equipment installation and commissioning, circuit/node turn-up and testing, and managing customer premise equipment such as Ethernet Network Interface Devices, Routers, Data Switches, premise Firewalls, Integrated Access Devices (IADs), Hosted phones, and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs). The role also involves preventive maintenance and testing/troubleshooting associated with transport infrastructure, switching infrastructure, and IP/Data networks. Field Operations personnel will perform "on call" duties as required, ensuring that the network operates smoothly and efficiently. The FSE will interact with internal and external customers, service technicians, technical support personnel, and other telecom professionals. This position requires a strong understanding of telecom equipment and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. The ideal candidate will assume all routine tasks for major projects and will be periodically called upon to make routine decisions. Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment installation and commissioning for telecom infrastructure.
  • Conduct circuit/node turn-up and testing.
  • Manage customer premise equipment including routers, data switches, and firewalls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on transport and switching infrastructure.
  • Respond to on-call duties as required to ensure network reliability.
  • Interact with internal and external customers and technical support personnel.
  • Utilize engineering documents to support network operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of telecom equipment such as Cisco and Ciena.
  • Experience working with fiber optic fibers in some capacity.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with telecom equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or technical field (industry related) preferred.
  • Cisco and/or Ciena equipment experience preferred.
  • Understanding of AC/DC core fundamentals.
  • Good driving record and proficiency in Office 365 suite.
  • Ability to understand and operate advanced industry test sets, DS1-100G, OTDR, and fiber scopes.
  • Knowledgeable in DC power to support tertiary power applications.
