About the position

The Automation Service Engineer at BD Diagnostic is a field-based role focused on providing on-site support for sophisticated diagnostic laboratory automation systems. This position is crucial for maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring the successful operation of BD's automation products. The engineer will troubleshoot, install, and perform maintenance on equipment while adhering to industry standards and regulations. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and excellent customer service skills, with responsibilities that include emergency response, system upgrades, and documentation management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support for installation and service of diagnostic laboratory automation instrumentation.
  • Respond to emergency customer requests and complete work in accordance with ISO and GMP standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding service expectations and ongoing activities.
  • Diagnose hardware/software issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Upgrade systems to ensure compatibility with software on all computers.
  • Work independently using schematics, diagrams, and service manuals to solve problems.
  • Maintain service documentation and provide feedback for efficiency improvements.
  • Report customer complaints in appropriate systems for resolution.
  • Manage trunk stock inventory according to established limits.
  • Maintain assigned calibrated test equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Utilize company credit card responsibly and adhere to expense guidelines.
  • Maintain and service company vehicle as required.
  • Complete administrative tasks within expected timeframes.
  • Provide on-call support as needed and support an inclusive work environment.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements including HIPPA, OSHA, and FDA.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a technical field or 3-5 years of relevant experience in Electrical/Electronics/Informatics/Mechatronics/Biomedical.
  • Strong understanding of electronics, electro-mechanical devices, PLCs, and pneumatics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of information systems networking and computer software operating systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service and soft skills.
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with at least 3 years of driving history.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 70lbs and handle prolonged standing, bending, and stooping.
