About the position

As a Field Service Engineer II at Applied Materials, you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This position requires a strong technical background and the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues. You will be working both in our state-of-the-art facility and at customer sites around the globe, representing Applied Materials and ensuring that our customers receive world-class support for their multimillion-dollar production systems. Your responsibilities will include assisting senior engineers with the installation of cutting-edge equipment, performing scheduled preventative maintenance, and resolving technical problems as they arise. You will be trained to follow established procedures and task plans to ensure that all equipment is functioning optimally and that all safety and environmental guidelines are adhered to. In this role, you will be expected to maintain clear and effective communication with both customers and team members, documenting all job-related details accurately. You will also need to demonstrate a customer-first mindset, ensuring that the needs of the customer are met while upholding the standards of Applied Materials. The position requires a significant amount of travel, approximately 70% to 90%, which may include both domestic and international trips. You will also need to be flexible with your working hours, as support may be required during nights, weekends, and holidays based on customer needs. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and are looking to make a significant impact in the semiconductor industry.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with installing leading-edge customer equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on equipment.
  • Upgrade equipment as necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Follow procedures learned during training and published task plans to test equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems effectively.
  • Complete required job documentation and safety training procedures.
  • Professionally represent Applied Materials to customers with a customer-first mindset.
  • Satisfy on-site requirements including safety, environmental, and COVID-19 guidelines.

Requirements

  • An associate degree or completion of military technical training and field experience or technical certification equivalent to an associate's degree.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in the semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting details.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge in pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a passport.
