About the position

As a Field Service Engineer II at Applied Materials, you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This position requires a strong technical background and the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues. You will be working both in our state-of-the-art facility and at customer sites globally, representing Applied Materials and ensuring that our customers receive world-class support for their multimillion-dollar production systems. Your responsibilities will include assisting senior engineers with the installation of cutting-edge equipment, performing scheduled preventative maintenance, and resolving technical problems as they arise. You will be trained to follow established procedures and task plans to ensure that all equipment is functioning optimally and that all job documentation is completed accurately. In this role, you will be expected to maintain a customer-first mindset, professionally representing Applied Materials while satisfying both company and customer on-site requirements, including adherence to safety and environmental guidelines. The position demands a high level of mobility, as you will be required to travel extensively, approximately 70% to 90% of the time, both domestically and internationally. This travel may include training sessions and visits to alternate customer sites, and you must be prepared to support rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed based on customer requirements. The physical demands of the job include extensive walking, standing for long periods, working in tight spaces, and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. You will also need to work in environments that may require the use of personal protective equipment due to clean room standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with installing leading-edge customer equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on equipment.
  • Upgrade equipment as necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Follow training procedures and published task plans to test equipment and diagnose technical problems.
  • Complete required job documentation and safety training procedures for processing parts.
  • Represent Applied Materials professionally to customers, maintaining a customer-first mindset.
  • Satisfy on-site requirements including safety, environmental, and COVID-19 guidelines.

Requirements

  • An associate degree or completion of military technical training and field experience or technical certification equivalent to an associate's degree.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in the semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting details.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge in pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a passport.
