About the position

As a Field Service Engineer II at Applied Materials, you will play a crucial role in troubleshooting hardware, solving complex problems, and enhancing the performance of equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing. This position involves working in both our state-of-the-art facility and at customer sites globally, making you the face of Applied Materials and a vital part of a diverse and dynamic team. You will receive comprehensive training to support the technology that is essential for manufacturing semiconductor chips and related materials, which are integral to modern technology. Your responsibilities will include installing, maintaining, and upgrading Applied Materials equipment, ensuring that our customers receive world-class support for their multimillion-dollar production systems. In this role, you will assist senior engineers with the installation of cutting-edge customer equipment, perform scheduled preventative maintenance, and carry out corrective maintenance as needed. You will follow established procedures and task plans to test equipment, diagnose issues, and resolve technical problems effectively. Documentation is a key aspect of this position, and you will be required to complete job documentation and safety training while adhering to company and customer on-site requirements, including safety and environmental guidelines. This position requires a commitment to customer service, as you will be representing Applied Materials professionally and maintaining a customer-first mindset. You will also need to be adaptable, as the role may involve working in various environments, including clean rooms, and requires the use of personal protective equipment. The job may necessitate travel for training and to alternate customer sites, which could include international travel, based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with installing leading-edge customer equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on equipment.
  • Upgrade customer equipment as necessary.
  • Follow procedures learned during training and published task plans to test equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems effectively.
  • Complete required job documentation and safety training procedures.
  • Represent Applied Materials professionally to customers with a customer-first mindset.
  • Satisfy on-site requirements including safety, environmental, and COVID-19 guidelines.

Requirements

  • An associate degree or completion of military technical training and field experience or technical certification equivalent to an Associate's Degree.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in the semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting details.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge in pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a passport.
