About the position

The Field Service Engineer II - Microbiology at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for conducting repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting, installation, and preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments at customer sites. This role requires excellent customer-facing skills and a proactive approach to resolving technical issues, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction while managing a large territory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and installations of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Maintain excellent customer-facing skills and prioritize customer satisfaction.
  • Keep inventory and administrative records up to date.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of service processes and information.
  • Collaborate with other Field Service Engineers for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Resolve technical issues related to hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Proactively address instrument issues to prevent them from becoming chronic by identifying root causes and developing action plans.
  • Stay current on equipment and tools through training, manuals, and technical bulletins.
  • Ensure accurate communication and documentation for product complaints per SOP.
  • Maintain records and reports, coordinating activities with peers, manager, and customers to minimize equipment downtime.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in electronics, engineering, biomedical technology, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field with science, engineering, and/or customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage a large territory and perform service training, customer training, support, and repair of laboratory equipment.
  • Willingness to travel at least 75% of the time with overnight stays.
  • Ability to respond to customer site visits with as little as 24 hours notice.
  • Availability to take at least 10 paid on-call weekends per year.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds routinely.
