About the position

The Field Service Engineer II position at Thermo Fisher Scientific involves providing comprehensive services on analytical instruments, specifically optical emission spectroscopy (OES), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The role is crucial in supporting the Production and Process Analytics business unit, ensuring that customers can accelerate production, improve product quality, and make faster process decisions. This position requires significant travel within the designated territory and emphasizes customer interaction, technical expertise, and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation, repair, maintenance, qualification, and validation of optical emission spectroscopy (OES), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) systems.
  • Use customer management software to monitor service calls, manage parts inventories, and complete job tasks.
  • Inspect malfunctioning products, analyze inspection findings to determine the source of the problem, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
  • Provide a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.
  • Develop and conduct training on the safe operations of the equipment and demonstrate skills to trainees, including both team members and customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 4+ years hands-on experience as a Service Engineer, particularly working with analytical instrumentation.
  • Working experience with optical emission spectroscopy (OES), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) is a strong plus or Bachelor's degree in Sciences, Engineering or related field with 0 years' experience.
  • Customer/business-oriented with effective communication skills and ability to establish good customer rapport.
  • Technical knowledge of scientific equipment or related technology-based equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize service requests and produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Ability to work independently within a customer location with minimal direct supervision.

Nice-to-haves
