About the position

As a Field Service Engineer II at Applied Materials, you will play a crucial role in troubleshooting hardware and solving complex problems to enhance equipment performance. This position involves working in a state-of-the-art facility and at customer sites globally, where you will represent Applied Materials and be part of a vibrant and diverse team. Our Field Service Engineers are trained to create and support the technology that is essential for manufacturing semiconductor chips and related materials. You will collaborate closely with global customers to install, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment, providing world-class support for multimillion-dollar production systems. In this role, you will assist senior engineers with the installation of cutting-edge customer equipment, perform scheduled preventative maintenance, and carry out corrective maintenance and upgrades. You will follow established procedures and published task plans to test equipment, diagnose, and resolve technical issues. Completing required job documentation, safety training, and procedures for processing parts is essential. You will also need to maintain a professional demeanor while representing Applied Materials to customers, ensuring that you prioritize their needs and adhere to safety, environmental, and COVID-19 guidelines. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with an associate degree in electronics or engineering technologies, or equivalent work experience. You should possess the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics, have clear communication skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge in areas such as pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics are also necessary. Familiarity with hand tools and their proper usage, including a digital multimeter, is expected. The role involves working on rotation and in shifts to ensure ongoing customer support. You will need to be physically capable of lifting at least 35 lbs, working in a clean room environment while wearing protective gear, and performing various physical tasks such as sitting, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. A valid driver's license and passport are also required for this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree in electronics or engineering technologies, or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Clear and effective written/verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge in pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics
  • Knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-4 years of work experience in the semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry
