About the position

The Field Service Engineer II for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for the on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment. This role involves ensuring customer satisfaction by applying appropriate resources, conducting maintenance visits, troubleshooting issues, and providing training to customers. The engineer will also collaborate with colleagues and provide feedback to improve product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation of sophisticated electron microscopy equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
  • Conduct scheduled planned maintenance visits and provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers.
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers and company personnel.
  • Complete technical training and seek additional learning opportunities.
  • Travel to customer sites on short notice to resolve problems or support other field service personnel.
  • Complete and submit field service reports and perform preventative maintenance on assigned tools.
  • Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance and mentor new field service engineers.
  • Provide feedback to product quality teams and update system documentation.

Requirements

  • University degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 1-5 years of equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
  • 1-5 years of experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober or similar systems is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical issues and partner effectively with customers and colleagues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating O-scopes and digital voltmeter.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, time management, organizational, problem solving, conflict management and customer service skills.
