In this role, you will be part of Unity Lab Services, a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, which provides coordinated solutions, instrument, and enterprise services to our customers. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be customer-oriented, acting as an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific, and eager to drive growth. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge and understanding of the principles and applications of High Resolution ICP Mass Spectrometry (HR-ICPMS) or Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS). The products you will work with include Thermo Fisher instruments such as Neptune, Element, Triton, and 253/271 Ultra. Your territory will cover up to 100% throughout the United States, and it is preferred that you live on the East Coast within one hour of a major airport. This position is posted in multiple locations, but there is only one position available. As a Field Service Engineer, you will handle all aspects of field service support and customer relationship management, including installation, repair, preventative maintenance, and providing detailed reports to customers. You will coordinate supplies and work with the Service Team to deliver technical expertise to customers, ensuring high-quality results and customer satisfaction. Your responsibilities will include performing on-site installation, repair, and preventative maintenance services, maintaining communication with customers, and providing rapid, courteous, and knowledgeable responses to inquiries. You will also be responsible for scheduling and delivering detailed preventative maintenance services to ensure maximum uptime of customer equipment, reviewing reports and documentation from customers, and regularly attending factory-provided technical and service training on the latest chromatography and MS products developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation, repair, and preventative maintenance services.
  • Ensure customer happiness through excellence in repair and support of customers' products.
  • Maintain communication with customers to ensure understanding of status, cost, and scheduling service events.
  • Provide rapid, courteous, and knowledgeable response to all customers' inquiries.
  • Proficiently use customer management software to supervise service calls, handle parts inventories, and complete job tasks.
  • Schedule and deliver detailed preventative maintenance service to ensure maximum uptime of customer equipment.
  • Review reports and documentation from customers and inspect malfunctioning products to resolve the nature and scope of problems.
  • Attend factory-provided technical and service training on the newest chromatography and MS products developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
  • Provide accurate and timely completion of quality training, service reports, expense reports, and other various administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Minimum education requirement is a BS degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience operating analytical equipment, i.e. chromatography and mass spectrometry.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Ability to travel up to 100% overnight for domestic travel.
  • Ability to work overtime and/or outside regular business hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with High Resolution ICP Mass Spectrometry (HR-ICPMS) or Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS).
  • Familiarity with Thermo Fisher instruments such as Neptune, Element, Triton, and 253/271 Ultra.
