About the position

The Field Service Engineer III at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for the on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, conducting maintenance, and providing customer training while ensuring high operational quality of systems such as Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The position offers opportunities for professional growth within the Field Services team and across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customer needs are met by applying appropriate resources.
  • Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel.
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel.
  • Complete technical training and identify specialist training based on microscopes in the region.
  • Travel to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel.
  • Complete and submit field service reports.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance on assigned tools.
  • Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance.
  • Mentor new field service engineers.
  • Provide feedback to product quality teams and update system documentation.

Requirements

  • University degree/Bachelor degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 5+ years of equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
  • 5+ years' experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober or similar systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/coach others and complex technical issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, time management, organizational, problem solving, conflict management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and troubleshoot complex systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with O-scopes and digital voltmeters.
