About the position

The Field Service Engineer III is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the network within the Charlottesville, VA market. This role involves equipment installation, commissioning, circuit/node turn-up and testing, as well as preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of various telecom infrastructures. The engineer will interact with customers and technical personnel, ensuring the smooth operation of telecom services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment installation and commissioning for telecom systems.
  • Conduct circuit/node turn-up and testing.
  • Manage customer premise equipment including routers, data switches, and firewalls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of transport and switching infrastructure.
  • Respond to on-call duties as required.
  • Interact with internal and external customers and technical support personnel.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Telecom equipment.
  • Knowledge of Telecom equipment such as Cisco and Ciena.
  • Understanding of AC/DC core fundamentals.
  • Ability to operate advanced industry test sets, including DS1-100G, OTDR, and fiber scopes.
  • Knowledge of DC power for tertiary power applications.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or technical field preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco and/or Ciena equipment.
  • Good driving record.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 suite.
  • Understanding and use of engineering documents.
