About the position

Leica Microsystems, a global leader in optical and digital solutions, is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join our dedicated team. This fully remote position is based in Chicago, Illinois, and covers territories in the central part of the USA. As a Field Service Engineer, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional service to our customers, primarily in universities and hospitals, ensuring that their Leica systems are functioning optimally. Your responsibilities will include performing preventive maintenance actions, conducting fault analysis, executing upgrades, and carrying out installations, maintenance, and repairs. You will be at the forefront of technology and medicine, working closely with top research leaders to support their groundbreaking work. In this role, you will collaborate with Sales Representatives during installations and demonstrations at exhibitions, ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of service. You will also work closely with the Service Team to share valuable insights gained from customer interactions, which will help enhance customer satisfaction and drive sales. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering professional service with effective working practices. To succeed in this role, you will need to have a strong technical background, with at least 4 years of experience in a relevant field, such as electro-mechanical troubleshooting. The position demands a willingness to travel extensively, with up to 80% travel required, including overnight stays and occasional international travel for training. You will need to be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing various physical tasks, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs. Responsibilities

  • Visit customers for preventive maintenance actions, fault analysis, upgrades, installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Support Sales Representatives in activities such as installations and demo/exhibitions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Service Team to ensure all customers in the region receive professional after-sales service.
  • Exchange valuable information resulting from customer contacts to increase customer happiness and sales.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent with 4+ years' experience in a technical, scientific, or engineering background or relevant military experience.
  • Electro-mechanical troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 80%, including overnight travel up to 4 nights a week with international travel for training up to twice a year.
