About the position

The Field Service Engineer position at Applied Materials is designed for new college graduates who will engage in hands-on training and certification to support the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of advanced equipment used in semiconductor and display manufacturing. This role emphasizes customer service and technical problem-solving, requiring collaboration with clients to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with installing customer equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance.
  • Upgrade equipment as necessary.
  • Follow training procedures and published task plans to test equipment and diagnose technical problems.
  • Complete required job documentation and safety training.
  • Represent Applied Materials professionally to customers with a customer-first mindset.
  • Satisfy on-site requirements including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Utilize analytical skills to review data and devise practical solutions to customer problems.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and display respect for the customer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Up to one year of work experience, military technical training, or an internship in customer/field service support or a related technical field.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and their appropriate usage, including digital multimeters.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting details.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on building trust.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service or field service support.
  • Familiarity with robotics and automation.
