About the position

Brooks Automation is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Phoenix, AZ Metro area. As a technology leader in Automation Solutions, we support the rapidly evolving Semiconductor and Life Sciences Lab markets. This role is pivotal as we continue to grow and innovate, driven by our commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence. The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for the installation, modification, repair, testing, and upgrading of equipment and systems, ensuring they operate at peak performance. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance, adhering to Brooks Automation's policies and procedures while working under the guidance of supervisors or site leads. In this role, you will interface directly with customers to ensure their satisfaction with our equipment and service levels. Participation in operational meetings will be essential to maintain open lines of communication and address any concerns. A critical aspect of the job is to maintain a safe and clean working environment, conforming to both Brooks and customer protocols. You will be expected to attain Equipment Service and Operation Certification on various systems and submit detailed reports on all support activities as required by your manager. Flexibility is key in this position, as you will need to adapt to changing priorities, including urgent tool or line down situations. Training customer personnel in equipment operation and maintenance procedures will also be part of your responsibilities. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. The role may require working in a Clean Room environment, necessitating the use of full clean room suits as per customer requirements. Your work schedule will align with customer needs, which may include compressed work weeks, night shifts, and weekends, and you must be available for on-call assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, modification, repair, testing, and upgrades of equipment and systems.
  • Conduct preventive diagnosis and maintenance on software and hardware.
  • Interface with customers to ensure satisfaction with equipment and service levels.
  • Participate in customer operational and status meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment according to protocols.
  • Attain Equipment Service and Operation Certification on equipment and systems.
  • Submit expected reports on all support activities as defined by management.
  • React productively to changing priorities such as tool or line down situations.
  • Train customer personnel in equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement programs and projects for customers and Brooks.
  • Initiate, evaluate, and document new processes or improvements to existing processes.
  • Work in a Clean Room environment wearing a full clean room suit as required.
  • Support a specific site, region, and/or product(s) depending on business needs.
  • Align work schedule with customer needs, including flexible hours and on-call assignments.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a technical discipline, technical Certificate, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing electro-mechanical/electronics technical support/repair service.
  • Proficiency with PCs, Windows, and DOS based Operating Systems.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Reliable mode of transportation and ability to obtain a credit card for expenses.
  • Ability to obtain a valid passport for the term of employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions and confined spaces.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
